Jumbo Makes Its Houston Debut in First U.S

MATRAS ENGLISH – Indonesian animated film Jumbo made its Houston debut at a movie screening organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Houston on Friday, August 21, 2026.

The event marked the first screening of “Jumbo” in the United States and was part of a series of events commemorating the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia in Houston.

The event was opened by the Consu! General of the Republic of Indonesia in Houston, Ourina Ritonga, and attended by approximately 125 viewers, including members of the Indonesian community and diaspora as well as the local public.

The screening attracted audiences across a wide range of age groups, from children to adults. Through the screening of “Jumbo,” the Indonesian Consulate General in Houston sought to introduce Indonesian films to audiences in the United States while promoting the film industry as one of Indonesia’s creative economy assets with the potential to reach international markets.

“Jumbo” is one of Indonesia’s animated films to have achieved significant milestones in the regional film industry. Its success highlights the growing potential of Indonesia’s creative works to gain recognition and reach audiences worldwide.

Throughout the screening, audiences enthusiasticaliy followed the story and adventures presented in “Jumbo.” Several attendees also expressed their appreciation and positive responses to the opportunity to watch an Indonesian animated film on the big screen.

The “Jumbo” movie screening in Houston is expected to further introduce Indonesian cinema and creative works to audiences in the United States, while also contributing to Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy efforts through the creative industries.
